Assisted-living center to be built on four acres of dormant site

The announcement is the first for the land since the City Council broke a six-year political stalemate Jan. 25 over the future of the Colonial Golf and Country Club property. The 88-acre site has been dormant since the club declared bankruptcy.

Businessmen John Georges and Wayne Ducote bought the property out of Bankruptcy Court in 2012. In January, the City Council agreed to divide about 15 acres near Jefferson Highway into six pieces, with commercial zoning on one lot for the senior complex and on four other lots. The sixth lot, a piece measuring slightly less than 2 1/2 acres flanking Colonial Club Drive near the highway, will be for single-family houses.

There are no immediate plans for the rest of the Colonial property, about 73 acres. About 17 acres are supposed to remain undeveloped for stormwater detention.

Blake Management Group, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., operates assisted living centers in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and South Carolina. New Orleans-based LongVue Capital, managed by Rick Rees and John McNamara II, says it is a private equity firm focused on debt and equity holdings in companies with as much as $150 million in annual revenue.http://realestate.nola.com/realestate-news/2018/03/colonial_harahan_senior_apartm.html
