Mayor Landrieu reveals 'major riverfront redevelopment' in New Orleans

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mayor Mitch Landrieu is expected to announce Friday morning (Oct. 28) a series of “major riverfront redevelopment projects.”

The mayor will make his announcement from the Moonwalk across from Jackson Square at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Watch it live here.

The mayor’s office said the announcement will involve multiple “landmark projects” that will “further stimulate economic growth and redevelop the City’s Riverfront.”

The announcement is expected to detail what comes next after a recent deal involving the city, the Port of New Orleans and the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad. The port recently finalized a deal to take control of the riverfront rail line in exchange for turning over some of its downriver wharves to the city. The riverfront property separates Crescent Park from Woldenburg Park, which fronts the French Quarter.

Another redevelopment project on the riverfront should also take shape soon, according to the Landrieu administration. The mayor’s chief administrative officer, Jeff Hebert, told the New Orleans City Council on Thursday that financing is expected to close soon on the lease of the former World Trade Center building. The Carpenter/Woodward team plans to turn the former office building into a Four Seasons hotel with condominium units.

According to the mayor’s office, elected officials and the following people will take part in the mayor’s press conference:

  • Cindy Connick, CEO, New Orleans Building Corp.
  • Bill Deltwiler, board president, New Orleans Building Corp.
  • William Hoffman, president, Woodward Interest
