See plans for Convention Center Boulevard linear park

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A moving walkway, tree-lined plazas, bike lanes and sleek overhangs are all part of a proposed renovation of Convention Center Boulevard into a linear park bordering the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Convention Center leaders for years have pursued a $65 million overhaul of the boulevard, where traffic jams of tour buses, taxis and downtown commuters converge with convention attendees trying to cross the street on foot.

Designs to convert the boulevard into a linear park stretching from Poydras Street to Henderson Street just past the Pontchartrain Expressway were filed with the city recently. The park – which includes options for fountains, green walls, water walls, a moving walkway and shaded sitting areas – is being designed by Manning Architects, Eskew+Dumez+Ripple, Spackman Mossop and Michaels, and Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design.

The linear park is part of the Convention Center’s larger vision to develop 47 acres of land upriver from the meeting hall into a billion-dollar mixed-use district anchored by a hotel. But negotiations with a proposed master developer on the project have stalled out.http://www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2017/04/convention_center_boulevard_re.html#incart_river_home
