Simplee Gourmet kitchen store opens in New Orleans' South Market District
Simplee Gourmet, a Covington-based gourmet kitchen boutique and cooking school, opened a second location in May at 1000 Girod St. in the South Market District in New Orleans.
The 3000-square-foot shop features high-end cookware and products as well as cooking classes and special events for home cooks and professional chefs. It will feature products like Le Creuset, which in 2016 opened a shop in the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, along with MacKenzie-Childs, Nordicware, Viking and Yeti.
The original location was opened by Melissa Marley at 70567 La. 21 in Pelican Landing in 2009.
A calendar of recreational cooking classes, which will be held in both of shops, is available at the website, SimpleeGourmet.com.
Classes at the New Orleans shop begin on June 1 with “Jazz Fest All Year,” a class that guides students in re-creating such dishes as crawfish Melissa (Simplee Gourmet’s take on the much-loved crawfish Monica), boudin balls, crawfish beignets and cochon de lait po-boys. Other classes focus on cooking French comfort foods, such coq au vin, as well as one on a rose wine tasting.
The South Market District, developed by Domain Companies, is a five-block area with condos, hotels, retail shops and restaurants.
Along with Simplee Gourmet, three other retailers – The Parker, a barber shop for men; and The Daily Beet, a restaurant; and Blanc Beauty Bar, a salon — recently opened, with Zeus’ Place, a pet grooming shop, and Lukka Boutique, which sells women’s clothes and accessories, to follow this fall.
